Overview

Qing Yi Decoction (Qingyi Tang) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily utilized for the treatment of acute pancreatitis. It is a multi-component decoction typically composed of several botanical ingredients, including *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Dahuang), *Radix Paeoniae Alba* (Baishao), *Fructus Aurantii Immaturus* (Zhishi), *Glauber's salt* (Mangxiao), *Radix Scutellariae* (Huangqin), *Radix Aucklandiae* (Muxiang), *Fructus Bupleuri* (Chaihu), and *Corydalis Rhizoma* (Yanhusuo). The formula is thought to exert therapeutic effects by inhibiting the systemic inflammatory response, reducing the excessive secretion and activity of pancreatic enzymes (such as amylase and lipase), improving pancreatic microcirculation, and promoting gastrointestinal motility. In clinical settings, it is often administered as an adjuvant therapy alongside standard Western medical protocols. The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University has conducted Phase 3 clinical trials evaluating a modified version of this decoction, often administered via oral intake or rectal drip therapy.
