Overview
Qingchang Enema is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). Administered rectally, the enema typically contains a combination of herbs such as *Indigo naturalis* (Qingdai), *Radix Sanguisorbae* (Diyu), *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian), and *Gallae Chinensis* (Wubeizi). It exerts therapeutic effects by reducing intestinal inflammation, promoting mucosal healing, and modulating the gut microbiota. Clinical studies, including those registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR), have evaluated its efficacy in patients with active left-sided ulcerative colitis, demonstrating improvements in clinical symptoms and endoscopic scores.
