Qingchang Ligan

Qingchang Ligan (QCLG) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation composed of five botanical ingredients in a 2:1:1:1:1 ratio. The herbs are Rheum palmatum (Rheum Radix et Rhizoma), Rehmannia glutinosa (Rehmanniae Radix), Magnolia officinalis (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Citrus aurantium (Aurantii Fructus), and Taraxacum mongolicum (Taraxaci Herba)[9]. It is primarily used for the treatment of liver failure and hepatic encephalopathy. Preclinical studies demonstrate that QCLG exerts hepatoprotective effects by attenuating liver inflammation, reducing hepatocyte apoptosis, modulating the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway, promoting autophagy[1], and regulating gut microbiota composition[6][9]. In animal models of acute liver failure and hepatic encephalopathy, QCLG improved survival rates, reduced inflammatory cytokine levels such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6[6][9], restored gut microbial balance disrupted by liver injury or toxins[9], and ameliorated cognitive impairment associated with hepatic encephalopathy.
