Overview
Qingchang suppository is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) rectal formulation developed by Longhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of active mild-to-moderate ulcerative proctitis and ulcerative colitis. The preparation is a multi-herbal combination typically including *Indigo naturalis* (Qingdai), *Radix Sanguisorbae* (Di Yu), *Radix Scutellariae* (Huang Qin), *Coptis chinensis* (Huang Lian), and *Phellodendron amurense* (Huang Bai). It functions by clearing heat, detoxifying, and cooling the blood to stop bleeding. Pharmacologically, it has been shown to inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1β, thereby promoting mucosal healing and reducing clinical symptoms in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
