Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingda granule is an oral traditional Chinese medicine herbal formula developed and used in China for the treatment of hypertension, particularly grade 1 hypertension, and for prevention or attenuation of hypertension-related target-organ damage. Across preclinical studies, the product has shown antihypertensive, vasodilatory, vasculoprotective, cardioprotective, renoprotective, and neuroprotective effects, with reported mechanisms involving suppression of calcium influx and downstream vascular contraction, inhibition of MAPK, PI3K Akt, NF-kappaB, TGF-beta1 Smad2 3, NOX1 oxidative stress, ERK RSK1, TLR4 MyD88 NF-kappaB NLRP3, and renin-angiotensin system signaling. A randomized multicenter non-inferiority clinical trial versus valsartan in Chinese patients with grade 1 hypertension reported blood-pressure lowering and a safety profile comparable to valsartan over 4 weeks. Qingda granule appears to be a multi-component botanical drug rather than a single defined molecular entity, and published work also identifies trifolin as one bioactive component contributing to vascular effects.
