Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingfei Huatan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine, primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Rooted in the TCM principle of clearing heat and resolving phlegm, the preparation typically comprises a complex mixture of botanical ingredients, including *Scutellaria baicalensis*, *Fritillaria*, and *Morus alba*. Its therapeutic mechanism is characterized by potent anti-inflammatory activity, achieved through the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8, as well as the regulation of airway mucus hypersecretion by downregulating MUC5AC expression. Clinical studies conducted at the developing institution suggest that Qingfei Huatan improves pulmonary function, reduces the frequency of acute exacerbations, and enhances the quality of life for COPD patients when used as a standalone or adjunctive therapy.
