Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingfei Paidu Decoction is a compounded traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and other acute respiratory infections. It was promoted by the National Health Commission of China as a general prescription during the COVID-19 pandemic. The formula is based on modifications of several classical TCM prescriptions, including Maxing Shigan Decoction, Wuling Powder, Xiaochaihu Decoction, and Shegan Mahuang Decoction[1][2][6]. Qingfei Paidu Decoction consists of 21 herbal ingredients such as Ephedra (9g), Radix glycyrrhizae (6g), Almonds (9g), raw gypsum (15g), Ramulus Cinnamomi (9g), Rhizoma alismatis (9g), Polyporus umbellatus (9g), Atractylodes japonica Koidzumi (9g), Poria (15g), Bupleurum (16g), Scutellaria baicalensis root (6g), Ginger-processed Pinellia ternata tuber (9g), Ginger rhizome (9g), Radix et Rhizoma Asteris tatarici root/rhizome(9 g); Flos Farfarae flower bud(9 g); Rhizoma Belamcandae rhizome(9 g); Radix et Rhizoma Asari root/rhizome(6 g); Rhizoma Dioscoreae yam rhizome(12 g); Fructus Aurantii Immaturus immature bitter orange fruit(6 g); Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae tangerine peel(6 g); Herba Agastachis pogostemon herb(9 g)[2][5][6]. Mechanistically, QFPDD exerts anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and multi-organ protective effects through multiple targets and pathways. It has been shown to inhibit viral replication—including SARS-CoV-2—reduce lung inflammation and epithelial cell damage in models of acute lung injury[1][2]. Network pharmacology studies have identified hundreds of putative protein targets for its active compounds[3], suggesting broad modulation across immune response pathways.
