Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingfei Paidu granule is a standardized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pharmaceutical formulation developed for the treatment of COVID-19. It is derived from the 'Qingfei Paidu Decoction,' which integrates four classic prescriptions from the Han Dynasty's 'Treatise on Febrile Diseases' (Shanghan Lun): Maxing Shigan Decoction, Shegan Ma Huang Decoction, Xiao Chaihu Decoction, and Wuling Powder. The granule contains extracts from 21 medicinal herbs, including Ephedra, Licorice, and Bitter Almond. Its mechanism of action is multi-faceted, involving the inhibition of viral entry by targeting the ACE2 receptor, suppression of viral replication via 3CLpro inhibition, and mitigation of the 'cytokine storm' by modulating inflammatory pathways such as IL-6 and TNF-alpha signaling. It was widely deployed in China across all stages of COVID-19 infection and received emergency approval and subsequent marketing authorization from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA).
