Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingfei Pingchuan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for the treatment of respiratory disorders such as bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis. Its name is a literal translation of its therapeutic actions: clearing lung-heat and relieving asthma (wheezing). The medication is typically a multi-herbal combination, with standard formulations containing *Ephedra sinica* (Mahuang), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), *Gypsum fibrosum* (Shigao), and *Armeniaca sibirica* (Xingren). Its mechanism of action involves bronchodilation through the activation of β2-adrenergic receptors by ephedrine alkaloids, as well as anti-inflammatory activity mediated by the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6. It is commercially available in China in capsule and granule forms and is frequently indicated for patients presenting with symptoms of lung-heat syndrome, including cough, yellow phlegm, and shortness of breath.
