Overview

Qinggongshoutao (QGST) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine formulation, typically administered as a bolus or pill, that is being investigated for its potential to treat cognitive decline. It is primarily indicated for patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), a condition often considered a precursor to Alzheimer's disease. Clinical studies, including a 52-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial led by Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, have suggested that QGST can improve global cognition as measured by the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-cognitive subscale (ADAS-cog) and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Furthermore, evidence indicates that QGST may significantly reduce the rate of progression from aMCI to possible or probable Alzheimer's disease compared to placebo.
