Overview

Qinghao + Biejia is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herb pair consisting of Qinghao (Artemisia annua L.) and Biejia (Carapax Trionycis). It serves as the core component of the Jieduquyuziyin prescription, primarily utilized for its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The combination is extensively studied for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its associated complications, such as lupus nephritis and atherosclerosis (SLE-AS). Its therapeutic mechanism involves the regulation of the HMGB1/TLR4 signaling pathway, inhibition of inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), and modulation of macrophage polarization by promoting cholesterol efflux. Research is primarily conducted by academic institutions like Zhejiang Chinese Medical University.
