Overview
Qinghouyan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Shanghai Yusen New Drug Development Co., Ltd., specifically indicated for the treatment of acute pharyngitis. The drug is composed of several herbal extracts, including Radix Scrophulariae (Xuan Shen), Radix Ophiopogonis (Mai Dong), Radix Paeoniae Alba (Bai Shao), Semen Sterculiae Lychnophorae (Pang Da Hai), and Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gan Cao). Pharmacologically, Qinghouyan acts as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6, and modulating inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins. It is designed to clear heat, detoxify, and moisten the throat, providing relief from symptoms such as pharyngeal pain, dryness, and congestion.
