Qingre Huashi decoction

Qingre Huashi decoction (QHD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Peking University First Hospital for the treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and associated gastrointestinal diseases, such as gastritis. The formula is a modification of the classical Sanren and Banxia Xiexin decoctions. QHD exhibits direct bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against H. pylori, including strains resistant to conventional antibiotics. Its multi-targeted mechanism of action includes the inhibition and destruction of bacterial biofilm structures, the suppression of efflux pump-related gene expression, and the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines like Interleukin-8 (IL-8). Clinical evidence suggests that when used as an adjunct to standard triple therapy, QHD achieves eradication rates comparable to bismuth quadruple therapy while significantly reducing the incidence of adverse reactions.
