Overview

Qingre Lidan is a traditional Chinese medicine compound formulation used primarily for hepatobiliary diseases such as cholelithiasis (gallstones), cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), intrahepatic cholestasis, and jaundice. It is available in several forms including tablets (QLTs), granules, and decoction. The formula typically contains multiple herbal ingredients such as Scutellaria baicalensis root (Huang Qin), Lysimachia christinae herb (Jin Qian Cao), Lonicera japonica flower (Jin Yin Hua), Artemisia capillaris herb top (Yin Chen Hao), Bupleurum chinense root (Chai Hu), Isatis tinctoria leaf (Da Qing Ye), Rheum officinale root/rhizome (Da Huang) among others[5][8][10]. Mechanistically, studies indicate that Qingre Lidan acts by activating the farnesoid X receptor in the liver and intestines to regulate bile acid metabolism and promote bile excretion[6][7]. It upregulates transporter proteins such as bile salt export pump and multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 to enhance hepatic bile excretion[6][7]. The preparation also exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by reducing oxidative stress and inflammatory infiltration in liver tissue. Active components identified include baicalein, wogonin, emodin among others[6]. Clinically it has been shown to reduce recurrence rates of choledocholithiasis after surgery[2], alleviate intrahepatic cholestasis symptoms[6], improve liver function indicators in alcoholic liver injury models[3], regulate lipid metabolism/transport genes via NRF2/KEAP1 pathway activation[3], modulate gut microbiota disorders associated with biliary tract disease recurrence prevention[7], and relieve pain associated with biliary tract diseases.
