Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qingweisan is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula, also known as "Clear the Stomach Powder" or 清胃散. It was first described in 1336 AD and is composed of five main herbs: Coptis Rhizome (Huang Lian), Cimicifuga Rhizome (Sheng Ma), Rehmannia Root (Sheng Di Huang), Moutan Bark (Mu Dan Pi), and Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui). The formula's primary function is to clear excess heat ("stomach fire") from the stomach and cool the blood. It is traditionally used for oral health conditions such as toothache due to stomach fire, gingival swelling, ulceration and bleeding, halitosis, dry mouth and tongue, stomatitis, periodontitis, glossitis, recurrent mouth ulcers, and other symptoms associated with excessive heat in TCM theory[1][2][3][4]. Modern pharmacological studies suggest anti-inflammatory effects and some immunomodulatory activity[1]. Qingweisan is not a single chemical entity but a multi-herb blend; its mechanism of action involves reducing inflammation by clearing heat from the stomach meridian according to TCM principles.
