Qingxinkaiqiao compound

Qingxinkaiqiao (QK) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound formulation designed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, adhering to the traditional therapeutic principle of "clearing the heart and opening the orifices" (Qingxin Kaiqiao). Developed and primarily researched at institutions such as the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, the compound is a multi-herbal mixture intended to provide neuroprotection and cognitive enhancement. Preclinical studies in rat models of Alzheimer's disease have demonstrated that QK treatment can significantly modulate apoptosis-related pathways. Specifically, it has been shown to up-regulate the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 while down-regulating the pro-apoptotic factors Bax and caspase-3. Furthermore, the compound has demonstrated the ability to reduce the accumulation and expression of amyloid-beta (Aβ) in the cerebral cortex, suggesting a multi-targeted approach to inhibiting neuronal loss and protein aggregation.
