Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qinpi Tongfeng Fang (秦皮痛风方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed for the treatment of acute gouty arthritis. The formula is based on classical TCM principles and modern pharmacological research, with its main ingredient being Cortex Fraxini (Qinpi), which has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, analgesic, uric acid-lowering, and diuretic effects. Clinical studies indicate that Qinpi Tongfeng Fang can reduce joint pain and swelling in acute gout attacks, lower serum uric acid levels more effectively than some conventional treatments like colchicine or diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, and has a lower incidence of adverse reactions compared to these chemical drugs. Its mechanism involves multiple pathways including anti-inflammation, pain relief, reduction of uric acid production, and promotion of uric acid excretion[3][4][5]. The formula typically contains several herbal components such as Cortex Fraxini (Qinpi), Smilax glabra (Tufuling), Plantago asiatica (Cheqianzi), Reynoutria japonica (Huzhang), among others[6]. It is administered orally.
