Overview
Qiwei Baizhu San (QWBS) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula traditionally used to treat gastrointestinal disorders associated with spleen deficiency, such as chronic diarrhea and dyspepsia. The formula typically consists of seven herbal components: *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Baizhu), *Panax ginseng* (Renshen) or *Codonopsis pilosula* (Dangshen), *Poria cocos* (Fuling), *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gancao), *Pogostemon cablin* (Guanghuoxiang), *Pueraria lobata* (Gegen), and *Saussurea costus* (Muxiang). Modern clinical research, including studies conducted by Wuxi Hospital of Chinese Medicine, has expanded its application to metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. It is hypothesized to work by modulating the gut microbiota, improving intestinal barrier function, and regulating glucose and lipid metabolism.
