Overview
Qiwei Tongbi is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) oral liquid formulation developed by Jiangsu Kanion Pharmaceutical for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The formula is composed of seven active components, including ants (*Polyrhachis vicina*), *Sinomenium acutum*, *Millettia dielsiana*, and *Pyrola calliantha*. It functions as an anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory agent by suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and interleukin-17 (IL-17). Additionally, it modulates the NF-kappaB and RANK/RANKL signaling pathways, which are critical in the pathogenesis of joint destruction and synovial hyperplasia in RA. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Qiwei Tongbi effectively reduces C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and improves patient-reported outcomes, including pain (VAS) and physical function (HAQ), particularly in patients with stable, long-standing disease.
