Overview

Qixleef (PPP001) is an investigational botanical drug product being developed by Tetra Bio-Pharma. It is a combination of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) with a fixed ratio, delivered via inhalation from a medical vaporizer. This method of administration is designed for rapid onset of action, which is being evaluated for the management of breakthrough pain. Qixleef is primarily being studied for various types of pain, including uncontrolled advanced cancer pain, breakthrough cancer pain, and chronic pain. The active components, THC and CBD, act on the body's endocannabinoid system. THC is a known partial agonist of cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, while CBD has a more complex mechanism involving allosteric modulation of cannabinoid receptors and interaction with other receptor systems. Clinical trials, including the Phase 2 PLENITUDE and REBORN trials, are assessing its safety and efficacy as a potential non-opioid alternative for pain management.
