QJ-19-0002 is an investigational small molecule urate transporter 1 (URAT1) inhibitor developed by Jiangsu Chia Tai Qingjiang Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Sino Biopharmaceutical. It is currently in early-stage clinical development for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. The drug's mechanism involves the selective inhibition of URAT1, a transporter protein located in the apical membrane of the renal proximal tubule cells that is responsible for the reabsorption of filtered uric acid from the glomerular filtrate back into the blood. By blocking URAT1, QJ-19-0002 promotes uricosuria (the excretion of uric acid in the urine), thereby reducing serum uric acid concentrations and preventing the clinical manifestations of gout, such as painful joint inflammation and the formation of monosodium urate crystals.
