Overview

QL1105 is a recombinant fully human monoclonal antibody developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical as a biosimilar to panitumumab (Vectibix). It is an immunoglobulin G2 (IgG2) kappa antibody that binds with high affinity to the extracellular domain of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR/ErbB1). EGFR is a transmembrane protein that, upon ligand binding, triggers signaling cascades such as the RAS-RAF-MAPK and PI3K-Akt pathways, which are critical for cell growth and survival. By competitively inhibiting the binding of ligands like epidermal growth factor (EGF) and transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α), QL1105 suppresses tumor cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. QL1105 is primarily developed for the treatment of RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) and is also being explored for other EGFR-expressing solid tumors, including head and neck cancers. It has demonstrated pharmacokinetic and clinical equivalence to the reference product in late-stage clinical trials, and a Biologics License Application (BLA) was submitted in China in 2023.
