QLG1091 is an oral formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical. It is designed to mimic the action of the endogenous GLP-1 hormone, which stimulates insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying in a glucose-dependent manner. QLG1091 is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, specifically as an add-on therapy to metformin, where it is being compared to the reference product Rybelsus. The drug aims to provide a more convenient oral alternative to injectable GLP-1 therapies for glycemic control.
