Overview

QLM1006 is a long-acting injectable (LAI) formulation of the atypical antipsychotic risperidone, developed by Qilu Pharmaceutical. It utilizes microsphere technology to provide sustained release of the active ingredient over an extended period, typically administered via intramuscular injection every two weeks. As an atypical antipsychotic, its primary mechanism of action involves the antagonism of dopamine D2 receptors and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the central nervous system. This dual antagonism helps alleviate both the positive symptoms (e.g., hallucinations, delusions) and negative symptoms (e.g., social withdrawal, emotional flattening) of schizophrenia while potentially reducing the risk of extrapyramidal side effects compared to typical antipsychotics. QLM1006 is primarily being developed for the treatment of schizophrenia to improve patient adherence, which is a significant challenge in chronic psychiatric care. It is classified as a Class 2.2 improved new drug in China.
