Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination vaccine consisting of a **quadrivalent nanoparticle influenza vaccine (qNIV)**, a **recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike protein nanoparticle vaccine (SARS-CoV-2 rS)**, and the **Matrix-M1 adjuvant**. - **qNIV** contains recombinant hemagglutinin antigens from four influenza strains, formulated as nanoparticles. - **SARS-CoV-2 rS nanoparticle vaccine** is a recombinant subunit vaccine consisting of trimeric, full-length, prefusion-stabilized SARS-CoV-2 spike proteins, also formulated as nanoparticles. - **Matrix-M1** is a saponin-based nanoparticle adjuvant derived from Quillaja saponaria, designed to enhance immunogenicity by promoting both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell-mediated) immune responses[1][2][3][5][7]. The formulation is designed to address both influenza and COVID-19 prevention with a single injection. The combination is mixed at the clinic before administration, with each component provided in a separate vial[1]. Developed primarily for broad adult vaccination. Typical administration is intramuscular, in a two-dose regimen. **Mechanisms of action**: - The nanoparticle delivery format presents viral antigens in an ordered, repetitive manner, enhancing immunogenicity. - Matrix-M1 adjuvant boosts immune response by early activation of innate immunity at the injection site and draining lymph nodes and by promoting a Th1-biased response[2][3][5]. - The combined vaccine induces neutralizing antibodies against both influenza and SARS-CoV-2, as well as T-cell responses[1].
