Overview

QNZ46 is a small molecule negative allosteric modulator (inhibitor) selective for GluN2D-containing N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. It is primarily utilized as a research tool to investigate the physiological and pathological roles of the GluN2D subunit in the central nervous system. Preclinical studies, including those in 6-OHDA-induced models of Parkinson's disease, suggest that QNZ46 exerts neuroprotective effects by improving mitochondrial function and preventing the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Its selectivity for GluN2C/D subunits over GluN2A/B makes it a valuable probe for studying subunit-specific NMDA receptor signaling.
