Overview

QR052 is an orally bioavailable small molecule P2X3 receptor antagonist being developed by Createrna Development for the treatment of respiratory conditions, specifically refractory chronic cough (RCC) and subacute cough (SAC). P2X3 receptors are ATP-gated ion channels located on sensory nerve fibers in the airways; their overactivation by ATP released during inflammation or irritation is a key driver of cough reflex hypersensitivity. By inhibiting these receptors, QR052 aims to reduce the frequency and severity of coughing episodes. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical development, targeting a therapeutic space that addresses significant unmet needs in patients who do not respond to standard antitussive treatments.
