QRH is a fluorescently labeled heptapeptide with the amino acid sequence QRHKPRE, developed by researchers at the University of Michigan as a molecular imaging agent for the detection of high-grade dysplasia and early-stage adenocarcinoma in patients with Barrett's esophagus. The peptide specifically targets the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), which is significantly overexpressed in esophageal neoplastic tissues compared to normal mucosa. When applied topically during endoscopy, QRH binds to dysplastic cells, allowing for real-time visualization using specialized fluorescence-based imaging systems such as the scanning fiber endoscope (SFE). In clinical studies, QRH is often evaluated as part of a multiplexed panel alongside other peptides, such as KSP (targeting HER2), to improve diagnostic sensitivity across the genetically heterogeneous landscape of esophageal neoplasia.
