Overview

QseC inhibitor is a small molecule anti-virulence agent being developed by OMM Scientific for the treatment of Gram-negative bacterial infections. The drug targets the QseC (Quorum-sensing Escherichia coli regulator C) receptor, a membrane-bound histidine kinase that acts as a sensor for host stress hormones (epinephrine and norepinephrine) and bacterial signaling molecules (autoinducer-3). By antagonizing QseC, the compound prevents the activation of virulence genes that allow pathogens like *Escherichia coli*, *Salmonella*, and *Francisella tularensis* to cause disease. This approach is non-bactericidal, meaning it does not kill the bacteria or inhibit their growth, which is intended to reduce the selective pressure for antibiotic resistance. The program is based on the research of OMM Scientific's co-founder, Dr. Vanessa Sperandio, and includes the lead candidate LED209.
