Overview

Quadion is a broad-spectrum topical antifungal medication developed and marketed by the Argentine pharmaceutical company Fortbenton Co. S.A. It is formulated as a shampoo containing 2% ketoconazole, a synthetic imidazole-derivative antifungal agent. Quadion is specifically indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of scalp conditions associated with the yeast *Pityrosporum ovale* (also known as *Malassezia*), including dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. The mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the fungal enzyme cytochrome P450-dependent 14α-demethylase, which is essential for converting lanosterol to ergosterol. The resulting deficiency in ergosterol disrupts the integrity and fluidity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to inhibited growth and cell death. The product is typically applied to the affected areas of the scalp, left for five minutes, and then rinsed, with a standard treatment frequency of twice weekly.
