The quadrivalent cell-based influenza vaccine (QIVc) is an inactivated subunit vaccine designed to provide active immunization against four seasonal influenza virus strains: two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two Influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). Unlike traditional influenza vaccines produced in embryonated chicken eggs, QIVc is manufactured using Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) mammalian cell culture technology. This cell-based production method avoids egg-adaptive mutations that can occur during the manufacturing process, potentially resulting in a closer antigenic match to the WHO-recommended circulating strains and improved vaccine effectiveness. The vaccine contains purified hemagglutinin (HA) surface antigens from each of the four targeted strains and is indicated for use in adults and children from 6 months of age.
