Overview

The quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV4) developed by China National Biotec Group (CNBG) is a split-virion biologic vaccine designed to provide broad protection against seasonal influenza. It contains hemagglutinin (HA) antigens from four WHO-recommended influenza virus strains, including two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The vaccine works by stimulating the host's immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin protein, which is essential for viral attachment and entry into respiratory epithelial cells. Administered via intramuscular injection, this vaccine is produced by CNBG's subsidiaries, including the Changchun, Wuhan, Beijing, and Chengdu Institutes of Biological Products. It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials to assess its safety and immunogenicity when co-administered with the 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) in healthy subjects aged 3 years and older.
