Overview
This combination refers to the **concomitant administration** of a high-dose quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (QIV-HD) and a COVID-19 vaccine (mRNA-1273). QIV-HD contains inactivated antigens from four influenza strains—two influenza A strains (H1N1, H3N2) and two influenza B strains (B/Yamagata, B/Victoria)—and is formulated with a higher dose of hemagglutinin antigen to enhance immunogenicity in older adults. mRNA-1273 is an mRNA-based vaccine encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, inducing neutralizing antibodies and cellular responses against COVID-19. Concomitant administration has been found safe and did not compromise the immune response to either vaccine. The combination is intended for adults, especially those age 65 and older, to provide simultaneous protection against both influenza and COVID-19.
