Overview

Quadrivalent influenza HA stem vaccine (SteMos1, VRC-FLUMOS0122-00-VP) is an investigational universal influenza vaccine developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The vaccine is designed as a self-assembling nanoparticle that projects 20 stabilized hemagglutinin (HA) stem trimers from four different influenza A strains representing both Group 1 (H2, H5) and Group 2 (H7, H10) viruses. By targeting the highly conserved stem region of the hemagglutinin protein rather than the rapidly mutating head region, SteMos1 aims to elicit broad, durable, and cross-protective immune responses against multiple seasonal and potentially pandemic influenza strains. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials, both alone and in combination with the Army Liposome Formulation containing saponin QS-21 (ALFQ) adjuvant.
