Quadrivalent influenza mRNA vaccine MRT5424 is an investigational messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine developed to provide immunization against seasonal influenza. It encodes antigens from four different strains of the influenza virus, corresponding to the standard composition of a quadrivalent flu vaccine. The mechanism of action involves delivery of antigen-encoding mRNA into host cells via intramuscular injection; these cells then produce viral proteins that elicit an immune response, generating protective antibodies against the targeted strains. The primary indication is prevention of seasonal influenza in adults aged 18 years and older. This candidate is being developed by Sanofi Pasteur and has been evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity compared to standard-dose, high-dose (for adults ≥65), or recombinant protein-based flu vaccines[1][2][5].
