The quadrivalent influenza split virion vaccine is an inactivated vaccine designed to protect against four different influenza virus strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). Developed by Guoguang Biotechnology (Adimmune Corporation), this vaccine is produced using split-virion technology, where the virus is grown in embryonated chicken eggs and subsequently inactivated and chemically disrupted (split) to reduce reactogenicity while preserving the immunogenicity of the viral surface proteins. The vaccine's primary mechanism of action is the induction of neutralizing antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin (HA) protein, which prevents the virus from attaching to and infecting host respiratory cells. It is typically administered via intramuscular injection for the prevention of seasonal influenza in individuals aged 3 years and older.
