Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination or co-administration regimen consisting of a quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (IIV4) and a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23). The IIV4 component is designed to provide active immunization against four seasonal influenza virus strains, typically including two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The PPV23 component contains purified capsular polysaccharides from 23 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae, which are responsible for the majority of invasive pneumococcal diseases. Clinical trials, such as those conducted by China National Biotec Group and Sinovac Biotech, evaluate the safety, reactogenicity, and immunologic non-inferiority of simultaneous administration compared to separate vaccinations. This regimen is often studied in high-risk populations, including the elderly and patients with chronic conditions, to improve vaccination efficiency and coverage, sometimes in conjunction with other vaccines like inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccines.
