Hualan Biological Vaccine's Quadrivalent Influenza Virus Split Vaccine is an inactivated, split-virion vaccine designed to provide broad protection against seasonal influenza. It was the first quadrivalent influenza vaccine to receive approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in China, specifically in June 2018. The vaccine contains antigens from four distinct influenza strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata), offering wider coverage than traditional trivalent vaccines which only include one B lineage. The manufacturing process involves inactivating the viruses and then using detergents to "split" the virions, which reduces the risk of adverse reactions while maintaining the ability to induce a robust immune response. It is administered via intramuscular injection and works by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin and neuraminidase proteins.
