Quadrivalent meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (MPSV4) is an **inactivated bacterial vaccine** formulated from purified capsular polysaccharides from Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, W, and Y. It is indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by these four serogroups, which are responsible for the majority of meningococcal infections worldwide. The vaccine induces protective immunity by stimulating antibody production against the bacterial capsule, thereby preventing invasion and dissemination of the pathogen. Unlike conjugate vaccines, this vaccine is not conjugated to a protein carrier and is mainly used in populations where conjugate vaccines may not be suitable, or under specific circumstances (such as outbreaks, or in individuals ≥56 years of age)[7]. Primary developers were Connaught Laboratories (acquired by Sanofi) and it has historically been manufactured by Sanofi.
