Overview

A quadrivalent recombinant influenza vaccine containing the H3 strain is a **recombinant protein-based vaccine** designed for **active immunization against influenza**. This vaccine technology uses recombinant DNA techniques to generate the hemagglutinin (HA) protein of four influenza virus strains (including an H3N2 strain) without the need for live influenza virus or eggs. The HA gene from the target strain is engineered into a baculovirus, which is used to infect insect or other cell cultures. These cells express large quantities of the HA protein, which is harvested and purified to formulate the vaccine. The primary mechanism is the induction of protective antibodies against the viral HA, preventing virus entry into human cells. Quadrivalent formulations target two influenza A strains (including H3N2) and two influenza B strains, for broad seasonal coverage. The vaccine is non-live and cannot cause influenza. It is indicated for use in appropriate age groups as determined by licensing authorities.
