Overview

The quadrivalent split influenza virus vaccine is an inactivated vaccine designed to provide broad protection against seasonal influenza by targeting four distinct viral strains: two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). Unlike whole-virus vaccines, split-virion vaccines are produced by disrupting the viral envelope with detergents or solvents, which significantly reduces reactogenicity while maintaining the immunogenicity of the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) surface proteins. This specific vaccine candidate, identified in clinical trials such as ChiCTR2200064959, is being developed by Simcere Pharmaceutical in collaboration with the Jiangsu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is currently undergoing clinical evaluation to assess its safety and immunogenicity across various age groups, including pediatric populations (6-35 months) and adults, with the goal of eliciting protective neutralizing antibodies against circulating seasonal influenza strains.
