Quadrivalent virosomal influenza vaccine is a type of influenza vaccine designed to provide active immunization against four different strains of the influenza virus—specifically, two influenza A subtypes and two lineages of influenza B. The "virosomal" formulation refers to the use of virosomes, which are lipid-based carriers incorporating viral proteins that mimic the natural structure of viruses but lack genetic material, thereby enhancing immune response without causing infection. Quadrivalent vaccines are updated annually based on predictions about circulating strains and aim to broaden protection compared to trivalent vaccines by including both major B lineages. The primary indication is prevention of seasonal influenza in various age groups[1][2][5]. Virosomal technology has been used in some licensed flu vaccines (e.g., Inflexal V), though most widely available quadrivalent flu vaccines use other platforms.
