Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Quadruple live Lactobacillus vaginal capsule is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) containing four distinct strains of live *Lactobacillus* bacteria. It is currently in Phase II clinical development for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV), a condition characterized by a depletion of normal vaginal lactobacilli and an overgrowth of anaerobic pathogens. Administered intravaginally, the product is designed to restore a healthy, lactobacillus-dominant vaginal microbiota. By replenishing these beneficial bacteria, the treatment aims to lower vaginal pH and produce antimicrobial substances such as lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide, thereby inhibiting the growth of BV-associated pathogens. A multi-center, randomized, double-blind Phase II trial (ChiCTR2200058973) is evaluating the safety and efficacy of different doses of this quadruple formulation compared to standard oral metronidazole therapy.
