Overview

Quanduzhong is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preparation derived from the bark of *Eucommia ulmoides* (Du Zhong). It is primarily developed and investigated by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital for its potential in treating hypertensive renal injury and hypertensive diabetic renal injury. The drug is formulated as a capsule and is believed to exert antihypertensive and nephroprotective effects through the action of its bioactive constituents, including lignans like pinoresinol diglucoside and various iridoids. These compounds are thought to modulate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Clinical evaluation has included Phase 0 studies comparing its efficacy to standard therapies such as losartan potassium in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
