QUC398 is an investigational biological drug developed by Novartis for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. It functions as an inhibitor of the enzyme ADAMTS5 (A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin Motifs 5), which is implicated in cartilage degradation associated with osteoarthritis. The drug was administered as a subcutaneous injection and evaluated in Phase II clinical trials to assess its efficacy in reducing pain and preserving cartilage in patients with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Despite demonstrating a favorable safety profile, development was discontinued after interim analysis showed insufficient effect on pain relief.
