Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NSP + chitosan is an investigational research formulation developed by Mansoura University, consisting of quercetin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles delivered in a gel form. It is designed as an adjunctive treatment to non-surgical periodontal therapy (scaling and root planing) for patients with periodontitis. The formulation utilizes chitosan, a mucoadhesive biopolymer, to create nanoparticles that provide sustained local delivery of quercetin to the periodontal pocket. Quercetin, a natural polyphenol, exerts anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway and possesses antibacterial and wound-healing properties. The therapy aims to reduce periodontal inflammation and improve clinical attachment levels by targeting inflammatory mediators in the gingival crevicular fluid.
