Overview

Quercus agrifolia pollen is an allergenic extract from the pollen of the California live oak (Quercus agrifolia). It is used for both allergy testing and immunotherapy. As a diagnostic tool, it helps identify patients with a clinical history of allergies to this specific pollen. For treatment, it is used in immunotherapy to reduce allergic symptoms in patients with confirmed sensitivity, demonstrated by positive skin tests or specific IgE antibody tests. The product, manufactured by ALK-Abello, Inc., is a non-standardized allergenic extract administered as a subcutaneous injection. It works by inducing hyposensitization. It was first approved in the U.S. in 1968.
