Overview

Quercus kelloggii pollen extract is a non-standardized allergenic biologic derived from the pollen of the California Black Oak. Marketed by Greer Laboratories (Stallergenes Greer), it is indicated for the diagnosis of immediate hypersensitivity through skin testing and for the treatment of allergic conditions via allergen immunotherapy. The extract works by modulating the patient's immune response, specifically by inducing the production of allergen-specific IgG antibodies, which compete with IgE, and by altering cell-mediated immunity and histamine release from mast cells and basophils. It was first approved by the FDA in 1968 under BLA 101833 and is administered via subcutaneous, intradermal, or percutaneous routes.
