Overview

Quercus robur pollen extract is an allergen immunotherapy product developed by Inmunotek S.L. for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic diseases caused by English oak pollen. It is indicated for patients suffering from allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and allergic asthma triggered by exposure to English oak (Quercus robur) pollen. The extract is utilized in both subcutaneous (SCIT) and sublingual (SLIT) immunotherapy formulations, such as Alunitek and Oraltek. The mechanism of action involves the induction of peripheral T-cell tolerance, characterized by a shift from a Th2-dominated immune profile to a Th1-dominated profile, the induction of regulatory T cells (Tregs), and the production of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies. These immunological changes lead to a reduction in mast cell and basophil activation upon subsequent allergen exposure, thereby alleviating clinical symptoms and potentially modifying the natural course of the allergic disease.
