Overview

Quercus stellata pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Post Oak tree (*Quercus stellata*). It is primarily utilized as a diagnostic tool in clinical allergy testing, such as skin prick tests or intradermal tests, to identify individuals with hypersensitivity to Post Oak allergens. As a biological extract, it contains a complex mixture of proteins and other molecules that trigger an IgE-mediated allergic response in sensitized patients. It may also be used in allergen immunotherapy (desensitization) to treat allergic rhinitis or asthma triggered by this specific pollen. The extract works by cross-linking specific IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells and basophils, leading to the release of inflammatory mediators like histamine.
